Arthurlie ended their season with a 4-0 defeat away at Cumnock.

Goals from Andy Muir and Scott Anson plus two own goals saw the East Ayrshire men secure a comfortable victory where, if it hadn’t been for keeper Grant Hay’s performance, they could’ve been in double figures.

Cumnock started brightest and five minutes in Hay had to get down well to save from James Hilton.

Although Cumnock were on top it was Arthurlie who probably should have opened the scoring. Good work by Jamie MacLennan down the right saw him look up to tee up Lee Roulston, but the youngster’s effort went straight at Johnston.

Two minutes later the hosts took the lead. Marc Mckenzie looked to have been fouled just outside the home penalty area but when referee Chris Gentles waved play-on Nok broke at pace. Muir gathered and ran straight at the heart of the Arthurlie defence then a quick one-two with Anson saw him hit a fierce drive past Hay from inside the box.

It was all Cumnock then and Hilton should have done better when he hit past, then soon after Hay had to be alert to deny Jamie Ballantyne.

It was now turning into a personal battle between Hay and the Cumnock forwards and the Barrhead keeper made his best save of the game to deny Anson whose glancing header at the near post forced the keeper into a fantastic reflex save.

The second goal was coming and it was Anson who grabbed it. A ball over the top saw the ex- Neilston frontman in space and he hit a low drive under Hay.

Next to try his luck was Wood who hit a pile driver that Hay somehow tipped over and, from the resulting corner, Hay falling backwards somehow managed to block an effort from McKenna.

Cumnock went further ahead after the break. A  cross from Anson saw Hal Bohme try to get out of the way of the ball but only managed to deflect it past Hay.

Eleven second half minutes had elapsed when it was four. Good interplay from Cumnock saw Hilton free on the left and his cross came off Michael Daly giving Hay no chance.

Next up for Arthurlie is the play-off games that will determine what division they compete in next season.
