Neilston got back to winning ways as they defeated Wishaw 4-2 at Brig O’Lea Stadium on Saturday.

A hat-trick of penalty kicks from Paul Stewart and Dylan Fletcher’s strike gave them the points as they fought back from being 2-1 down at half-time.

Neilston  opened the scoring in the 12th minute with the first penalty of the game as Martin Curren’s cross struck a hand inside the box and the referee pointed to the spot. Paul Stewart drilled the spot-kick home.

Their lead lasted only two minutes when Neilston gave away a free-kick 35 yards out.  McGuire fired the ball  into the bottom corner despite Robert Tiropoulos getting hand to it.

Wishaw ended the first half on the front foot when they took the lead on half-time when Jason Thompson cut inside to fire an unstoppable shot into the top corner.

Neilston  equalised after the break when a long kick-out from Robert Tiropoulos found Dylan Fletcher, who managed to shrug off the defender before rounding the advancing keeper and slotting the ball into the net.

Wishaw went  behind in the 65th minute with another penalty when Lewis Lovering’s cross was handled inside the box.  Stewart scored his second penalty of the game to make it 3-2.

Thomson prevented Neilston adding to the scoring as he tipped Euan Clark’s header by the post.

Wishaw got their chance to level the scores in the 85th minute when McGeogh was upended in the box, but Robert Tiropoulos made a tremendous penalty save by diving to the right and pushing McGuire’s effort past the post.

Neilston sealed the three points with the fourth penalty in the dying minutes when Dylan Fletcher was fouled in the box and  Stewart slotted the ball home to notch a penalties hat-trick.

Man of the match: Stephen Docherty.
