Arthurlie Manager Billy Ogilvie felt that his side’s 4-1 loss to Beith Juniors was a flattering one for their hosts.

The Lie took an early lead but were pegged back shortly after before going into half-time at 1-1.

But goals at the beginning and end of the second half gave all three points to the Bellsdale Park side as Arthurlie couldn’t follow up their midweek 2-0 win over Clydebank. Ogilvie said: “4-1 looks like a mauling and people will just pick the paper up and see that and go ‘Arthurlie got hammered there’ but that wasn’t the way the game went.

“The goals at the end added a bit of gloss to the score. We played really well in the first half going in level, but they took the lead early in the second half.

“We lost an early goal through a lapse in concentration and the third goal is crucial at 1-1. In the last 10 minutes we went for it and lost a couple of cheap ones.

“We were still in the game after conceding and had some good opportunities.

“I was talking to neutrals who were at the game and they said that the scoreline flattered Beith, and I felt that as well.”

Ogilvie was still finding the positives though, and was pleased that his injury hit side performed so well, with those who stepped in for his crocked defenders catching his eye.

He said: “We had three players missing out from the back four that played against Clydebank.

“The guys that came in did well. We threw in two local boys for their debuts, Michael Browne and Thomas McGauchey.

“Their season had finished with their amateur team and they came in and did exceptionally well. There’s nothing but positivity.”

Lie remain third from bottom in the Super Premier Divison four points behind Clydebank, who they beat on Wednesday.

He said: “Wednesday was a real six pointer. A clean sheet in this league is no mean feat.”So to get that and a couple of goals and the points was great.

“To a man they were fantastic and it’s just a shame they never got what they deserved on Saturday.”
