Arthurlie manager Billy Ogilvie said he was proud of his team despite their 3-2 loss to league champions Glenafton on Saturday.

Captain Kieran McAlennan put The Lie ahead from the penalty spot after two minutes but they couldn’t turn their chances into goals and fell 3-1 behind.

Dom O’Halloran pulled one back before The ‘Lie bombarded their opponents goal in the final stages but couldn’t find an equaliser to grab a point against promotion chasing Glenafton.

But Ogilvie says there are still positives to take from the game. He said: “We put in a fantastic performance. The way the game went it was really hard to take.

“It was one-way traffic at the end of the game. Glenafton were running the ball in the corner to waste time which showed how we were doing.

“I was disappointed at the result but pleased in the manner we applied ourselves. We had a game plan, we changed formation, and they played very well.

“We got hit on the counter attack a few times but this is the team that won the league and Scottish Cup last season.”

Next up for Arthurlie is a crucial game against Clydebank at Dunterlie Park tonight which could go a long way to deciding the fate of each team going into the final weeks of the season.

Bottom spot is currently occupied by The ‘Lie but a win would lift them up to tenth and just a point behind their relegation threatened rivals.

However, Ogilvie admits he may be forced into making some changes from Saturday’s team.

He said: “At this stage of the season it’s difficult for players to get away from work early and the likes because we’ve got early kick-offs, so we’ll probably change one or two bodies, but every team has those hurdles to deal with.

“We’ll assess the game again and see how the lads are doing for tonight’s game.”
