Barrhead high jump star David Smith finished 10th in the men’s high jump final at the Commonwealth Games in Australia.

The 26-year-old was one of two Scottish competitors who safely qualified for the April 11 showdown at the Carrara Stadium, along with compatriot Allan Smith who finished fifth in the final.

Smith, who failed to qualify for the final at his first Games in Glasgow in 2014, cleared a height of 2.18 metres in the Gold Coast to take joint tenth along with Nauraj Singh Randhawa of Malaysia.

Earlier in the Games Newton Mearns weightlifter Lisa Tobias lifted her way to a Scottish record in the clean and jerk in the women’s 48kg with an overall score of 139.

The gymnast turned weightlifter scored 60kg in the snatch and 79kg in the clean and jerk.

While Erin Wallace, also from Newton Mearns, and her Scotland team-mates claimed seventh place in the mixed team relay triathlon final ahead of South Africa with a time of one hour, 22 minutes and 21 seconds.
