An East Renfrewshire athlete has received parliamentary plaudits at Westminster after being selected to represent Scotland in this year’s Commonwealth Games.
Nikki Manson holds the Scottish indoor high jump record after clearing a height of 1.9m.
And she will soon be going for glory on Australia’s Gold Coast as the Commonwealth’s best athletes do battle.
Ahead of the Games, Nikki has been handed a boost by East Renfrewshire MP Paul Masterton, who lodged an Early Day Motion in the House of Commons to highlight her achievements.
Early Day Motions (EDMs) allow MPs to raise awareness of an organisation or worthy cause.
And Mr Masterton said he is delighted to lend his support to Giffnock North athlete Nikki, who had missed the initial cut for Scotland’s Commonwealth squad, as well as congratulating her coaches.
The Conservative politician added: “Nikki has certainly been on a roller-coaster of a journey as far as qualification for the Games is concerned but I am happy her hard work and determination has paid off.
“I wish her every success in Australia representing Scotland.”
