ANOTHER blank Saturday saw us look back once again, writes Robert Burns.

On February 22, 1927 Alloa Athletic were the visitors to Barrhead to contest a Scottish Cup third round replay.

The majority of the 3,000 inside Dunterlie Park will have left happy as goals from Armstrong, French, and Jessiman secured a 3-0 win which put Arthurlie into the quarter finals, a match they would subsequently lose 3-0 to East Fife again at Barrhead.

Downs and McKenzie were on target as Arthurlie edged Pollok by the odd goal in three in a Central League Cup match played in 2003.

A goal from McCudden on February 23 was scant consolation as Arthurlie went down by six goals to one at Cappielow Park in the final of the Renfrewshire Cup against a rampant Port Glasgow Athletic. McCafferty, Skippen, and Miller were the scorers in a 3-0 win over Carluke Rovers in 1985.

The 24th saw another Renfrewshire Cup tie, this one a first round meeting with Paisley Academicals, and it was Arthurlie’s turn to hit six while the hosts managed a solitary strike.

On this day Arthurlie have beaten Kirkintilloch Rob Roy 5-1, the last one was a Scottish Cup fifth round replay played in 2007 that we touched on last week, the previous one was a league meeting in 1945 when goals from McAteer along with doubles from Sloan and Ormond secured the two points.

Gillespie hit five on the 25th as Thornliebank were routed 9-1 in a league match played in 1899, McGregor added two while the Clarks, John and William chipped in the other two.

In 2012 Arthurlie exited the Scottish Cup at the fifth round going down 2-0 to Bo’ness in a replay at Newton Park that saw Gallagher sent off for the Barrhead side.

On the 26th Arthurlie travelled to Bayview Park where 2000 saw the hosts, East Fife win with ease by seven goals to one, a result that saw Arthurlie slip to tenth place in the old second division table, Fyfe getting the solitary goal.

1949 saw the one and only meeting between Arthurlie and Newarthill Hearts but a double from Knox couldn’t save Arthurlie as the North Lanarkshire club eased through 7-2.

Hosts, Albion Rovers, won a league encounter by the odd goal in five in 1926 at Cliftonhill Stadium on February 27.

Arthurlie’s goals were scored by Clark and Alan Sliman. Sliman later moved south signing for Bristol Rovers in 1928 for the princely sum of £280.

During the Second World War Sliman was with the RAF as part of their ground crew and was tragically killed in a plane crash in 1945.

Last season Arthurlie had the long journey to Station Park in the west of Scotland Cup but a double from Smith and another from McGregor secured a 3-0 win over Craigmark Burtonians meaning the journey home was more bearable.

February 28 1925 saw a Clydebank side host Arthurlie at the Clydeholm Stadium and run out winners by three goals to nil.

This Clydebank were not the same side who played in the senior ranks until quite recently nor the current junior side but were a senior team that were in existence from 1914 to 1931 when they folded.

2015 saw Robert Downs Arthurlie travel to Guys Meadow to face Kirkintilloch Rob Roy in a Scottish Cup fourth round replay, a goal from Smith secured a one all draw with Arthurlie winning the resulting penalty shoot out.
