BARRHEAD Amateur Boxing Club’s young fighters were among the medals at the Western District Championships at Ravenscraig.

Matthew Gemmell won a gold medal while Jon Trimble and Ciaran Lapsley brought silver medals back to Barrhead.

Coaches Graham Thomson and Brian Peacock have worked hard with the promising fighters over the last few years and their progression continued with some eye-catching displays.

In the Schoolboy 2004, 35.5Kg final, Matthew Gemmell dominated Aaron Martin (Forgewood) from the first bell to record a 5-0 win and claim the Western District title.

In the Schoolboy 2005, 31Kg class Ciaran Lapsley came through a tight semi-final against Jason Duffy (Auchengeich), winning three rounds to two, before losing in the final to Terry Sample (Springhill).

In the Schoolboy 2003, 44.5kg class Jon Trimble fought well to reach the final where he lost to Josh Kennedy (Kilsyth Golden Gloves) who claimed the victory.
