NEILSTON WASPS 2010s celebrated the team’s one year anniversary at the turn of the year and the young squad are going from strength to strength.

They now have over 30 children playing for the age group, all from the local community. During their first year they joined the Paisley Johnstone and District league and the youngsters play at Renfrew Juniors’ New Western Park on Sunday mornings.

There have been some great games with fantastic team and individual performances from the young footballers.

Coach Alan MacInness said: “It has been phenomenal, the amount of kids wanting to come and play for the Wasps is magic.”

Coach Alan Curran added: “The support from all the parents and sponsors has helped to make this a great wee club and the effort showed by the kids is second to none. We received major sponsorship from local restaurant The Travellers Rest in Neilston who we’d like to thank for enabling all the kids to have a full kit.”

Meanwhile the Neilston Wasps 2006s came together in December to hand out awards and celebrate a very successful year for the club.

The 2006 age group have three teams competing in the PJDYFL and their players turned out to receive their league medals and club trophies.

Individual winners on the day were: Player of the Year: Harvey Paxton.

Players’ Player of the Year: Cameron Gray.

Most Improved Player: Luca Hearton.

Coach Kenny Wilson said: “Our 2006 Wasps have enjoyed a great 2016 taking part in numerous tournaments as well as our many league fixtures however we couldn’t do it without the help of our many volunteers and parents who assist the club in many different ways.

“Our team are looking for sponsorship to help take the club forward in 2017, team sponsors can promote their business on our club kits and on our very popular social media platforms.”
