ROSS Penman, who runs local Barrhead Club I-Kick Martial Arts, made his full contact kickboxing debut in style recently.

Hosted by Fight 2 Perfection and supported by the WKA there were a number of fights billed at the Corn Exchange, Edinburgh on Saturday, September 24 which was dubbed as ‘the biggest kickboxing show in Scotland this year’ and almost 800 spectators attended on the night.

National and international taekwondo and kickboxing champion Ross showed real style from the outset against his more experienced opponent, Kevin Armet from Robertson’s Martial Arts, East Lothian, (W1, L1, D1).

He ended ending his opponent’s chances with a clean-cut hit to the head, knocking Armet out in the third round to win the fight.

The 24-year-old said: “This was a great opportunity for me to take the next step-up in my competitive Martial Arts career, I’ve fought in many competitions, always tournaments on the mats, this was my debut on the full contact scene and I would like to thank all of the coaches, family and friends who came along on the night to support me.

“I really valued the opportunity to test myself in that environment and I’m pleased to say all the hard work and training paid off.”

Ross plans to represent Scotland again in the World Championships next year and his next full contact fight is on November 19 at the RMkb Academy, Ferry Road, Renfrew.

I-kick martial arts run kickboxing classes for teens and adults and ladies only fighting fit classes, as well as kids programmes in taekwondo from age four to adult.
