ARTHURLIE got back to winning ways with a 4-2 win over Largs Thistle at Dunterlie Park on Saturday.

The visitors started reasonably well and it took the home side 20 minutes to get into gear.

David Morrison had Lie’s first half-chance after a corner but his shot was blocked. Ryan Deas was next to try his luck but his effort came back off the bar, one of five occasions that the Barrhead side would be thwarted by the woodwork.

On the half hour Deas had the ball in the net but his effort was ruled offside, which seemed a harsh decision, but three minutes later the breakthrough came.

A long ball from Grant Hay found Gary Smith who took one touch before firing home the opener.

Craig Palmer went close soon after as Arthurlie began to turn the screw, but as the half-time interval came there was no more scoring.

Early in the second half Darren Gribben replaced Martin Curren in attack, but Arthurlie were hit with a sucker punch when Kevin Struthers levelled the game.

The visitors almost went ahead soon after but for an outstanding goal-line clearance from Morrison, but Largs weren’t to be denied and Alan Gilbride put them ahead after 56 minutes.

Almost immediately Deas scored at the other end to level matters once again.

This jolted the Barrhead side as they chased the winner, Gribben had an effort blocked before Deas hit the woodwork then Smith saw his effort come back off the bar as Arthurlie turned up the pressure.

Their goal arrived with eight minutes remaining.

The impressive Scott Gair showed a cool head at the back ushering the ball to safety before sending a fantastic ball the length of the field to Gribben who fired home.

By now it was one-way traffic, Palmer was hauled down inside the area and Smith converted from the spot to wrap up the points with six minutes to go.

There was still time though for Ian Nimmo to see his effort come back off the woodwork but there was no more scoring.

Arthurlie ran out worthy winners with the second-half performance matching anything seen at Dunterlie Park this season.
