BARRHEAD’S former two-time Scottish champion Gary Rae has turned professional and followed in the footsteps of his brother to signs with St Andrew’s Sporting Club.

Gary’s brother Steven has notched up two victories in his opening two bouts as a professional. Super bantamweight Gary will be trained by former undefeated professional Mark Breslin.

The Rae brothers are are being looked upon as the future of the St Andrew’s Sporting club by figurehead Iain Wilson.

The younger of the Rae brothers is delighted with the link-up and aims to better his amateur success in the professional ranks.

Gary said: “I’m very excited to be signing with the St Andrew’s Sporting Club. I’m looking forward to the journey.

“I’m confident I can deliver as a pro. I’ve had a good amateur career with Mark Breslin at Barrhead ABC and I’m now excited to move forward.

“I’m planning on winning titles in 18 months and I’m 100 per cent confident I can deliver them.”

The Rae brothers enters the professional ranks after a successful stint at Barrhead ABC and will continue his successful relationship with Mark Breslin.

Breslin, who is in the process of obtaining his professional trainers’ licence, has mentored many amateur talents to success already.

And the former undefeated light welterweight has high hopes for the latest prodigy to come under his watch.

He said: “Gary is a really good fighter and we’re hoping to continue his amateur success in the professional ranks.

“He has the right attitude and I’m fully confident that Gary can win notable titles as a professional.”

Gary Rae joins an ever growing stable of fighters within the St Andrew’s Sporting Club and manager Iain Wilson is delighted with his latest signing who is set to make his professional debut between now and the end of this year.

Wilson added: “Gary is a fighter we’ve been watching for a while now with eagerness. He’s accomplished a lot as an amateur and we are delighted to be the ones to guide him in the professional ranks.

“His brother Steven is currently 2-0 under the St Andrew’s banner and both brothers will be moved quickly into title action as we believe they both have the ability to win notable titles in the not so distant future.”
