NEILSTON Juniors made it two wins in row after they narrowly defeated over Larkhall Thistle at Gasworks Park on Saturday as both sides ended the game with 10 men.

Robbie Cameron came in for Craig Patterson as the only Neilston change from last week’s win.

Neilston started the game well but the home side took the lead minutes later against the run of the play when the Neilston defence failed to deal with a long kick out. Gracie set up Reid to drill the ball low past Digney into the bottom corner.

Larkhall enjoyed spells of pressure and created some chances with Clarke’s shot hitting the side netting.

Neilston responded with Docherty’s header just going past the post from Kennedy’s cross. The home keeper then produced a great save to deny the equaliser when he tipped over Young’s header from Stoney’s free kick.

The Jags ended the first half strongly but couldn’t add to their lead. But Neilston had the Jags on the back foot after the interval as they pressed for the equaliser.

The Farmer’s Boys were lucky on two occasions when the home side broke clear and failed to deliver the final ball. The away side heeded the warning and took control for the remainder of the game, creating chance after chance with Young, Kennedy, Stoney all going close.

They got their reward when Young was held in the box by sub Mushett and the referee pointed to the spot and gave a red card to the defender. Derek Kennedy converted the penalty kick.

The home keeper denied Neilston making it 2-1 when he tipped Stevenson’s shot over.

Neilston were reduced to 10 men when Ross Geddes was sent off for bad challenge on Innes, but this didn’t stop the flow of the game as they got the winner in the dying minutes when Paul Young slid in at the back post to send the ball crashing into the roof of the net.
