TWO Barrhead cousins are set to fly across the pond to America in pursuit of their dream of becoming professional golfers.

Josh Beatt and Lewis Breslin, both members of Fereneze Golf Club, have accepted golfing scholarships at separate colleges in the US.

Josh, who plays off one, is heading to Murray State College in Tishomingo, Oklahoma, to study kinesiology after receiving a raft of offers.

But the former Barrhead High pupil will get to spend as much time on the golf course as he does studying in the classroom and he insists he expects a big improvement in his game during his four years in America, helping him towards his dream of becoming a pro golfer.

He said: “I’ve signed to go to Oklahoma, but I had offers from California, Missouri and San Francisco and a few others.

“I went to America in April to visit three places and out of the three Oklahoma was my favourite one.

“There were a lot of factors: the apartments are really nice and the golf course is right next to the apartments.

“I’ll be studying kinesiology, which is like physiotherapy. I did a year at college here in sports coaching.

“I’ll be in class 9-12 Monday to Friday, then I have to be be on the golf course for practice at 1pm every day.

“I have four years out there so I expect to improve a lot. My main goal is to turn professional and play golf, and if not I can use my degree to find a job.”

Lewis will be 1,000 miles west of his big cousin at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University in Prescott, Arizona.

The cousins have grown up playing golf together at Fereneze and around the country and Josh admits there is a friendly rivalry which he thinks has benefited them both.

He said: “We have definitely pushed each other on at golf. There has always been a friendly rivalry.”
