THE Braehead Clan have announced the signing of experienced former New York Rangers right winger Jeff Ulmer.

The Canadian comes to Glasgow with a wealth of experience with clubs across the globe, including stops in Sweden, Finland, Germany, Belarus, Slovenia and, more recently, Austria.

He had a spell with New York Rangers in 2001-02, where he iced 21 times for the NHL outfit.

Clan head coach Ryan Finnerty was delighted to beat off stiff competition from Elite League rivals to land the 39-year-old.

He said: “Jeff’s a guy that’s been on our radar and everyone else’s. He was looking to make a move over to the UK and we were one of four or five teams in for him.

“We were looking for that marquee guy, the guy with good experience and everywhere Jeff has been, he’s been a leading scorer.

“He also hasn’t missed a game for years, which is pretty incredible. He’s in great shape and is a player that can keep going, which is a credit for how well he takes care of himself.

“He hasn’t had a dip in play and consistently delivers in points, which is why everyone wanted him, and I’m looking forward to welcoming him to Braehead.”

Ulmer arrives from HC Innsbruck in Austria, where he’s spent the last couple of years and returns to the Elite League, where he played briefly with Cardiff Devils in 2003.

But His signing is one that excited Finnerty and the head coach revealed just how he landed was able to sell Braehead Ulmer above the other teams vying for his signature.

He explained: “We sold him on our strong reputation and the fact that players and former players all talk to each other. We spoke a lot on the phone and messenger, and he decided this was the best place for him and we’re really happy about that. I’m pretty excited to get him on board.”

Ulmer will wear the number 44 next season and joins Trevor Hendrix, Gary Russell, Scott Aarssen, Cody Carlson, Zach Sullivan, Matt Keith, Bari McKenzie, Matt Haywood, Alex Leavitt, Daniel Ahsberg, Corey Cowick, Scott Pitt, Craig Peacock and Callum Boyd on the roster.
