Mia Peacock and Paul Greval have been regulars at the club for a while, and their hardwork and endeavour has been rewarded as they clinched Scottish Championship titles.

Peacock is coached and trained by Thomas McDermott, and has consistently progressed through the ranks and attended Scottish international camps in Glasgow’s high performance centre. She has more than held her own in a number of points and this success is just a continuation of her recent form.

Elsewhere, Greval, trained by Brian ‘Brass’ Walker for the past two years, has developed into a promising young fighter. Although losing the first round of his final against a heavier opponent, he showed true grit and determination to overcome his opponent in the second round.

Greval stepped up the pace in the third to out-point his opponent in a unanimous decision.

Both Barrhead boxers won on points against tough opponents at Ravenscraig Sports Centre.

Off the back of their success John Gibson of Howdens Joinery has continued his support of the club by donating £500 towards the club’s running coasts.

Peacock and Greval are the first two club champions of the year in the 40th anniversary year of the Barrhead Amateur Boxing Club.

The club heavily relies on support from the local community and business where donations of any kind are greatly appreciated.

The club only charges £1 for under-16s and £2 for overs and seniors, all for a two-hour session.

Barrhead Boxing Club would like to thank the support and generosity of Howdens Joinery for their continued support to the boxers and the Barrhead community as a whole.
