The league derby returns to Dunterlie following a season break courtesy of Lok’s relegation. And, Downs is hoping his side will be backed to the hilt by the locals down at Dunterlie.

He said: “These games are fantastic occasions and I’m hoping for a great match.

“It would be great to get a big crowd backing us. It certainly gives the guys a lift and it would be brilliant to get a large, vocal crowd through the gate.

“The club appreciates all the support and it will be no different this Saturday when Pollok come to town.” ‘There is more to come’ — that’s the opinion of Downs despite watching his side put Irvine Meadow to the sword on Saturday.

Ryan McGregor’s second-half strike proved to be the difference as Lie made the trip back from Ayrshire with three points in the bag. It was a welcome boost for an Arthurlie side looking to build on last season’s West of Scotland Cup victory with a successful league campaign.

Early signs look promising for the Dunterlie outfit, and boss Downs was in an equally confident mood.

He told Barrhead Sport: “It was an excellent result from the boys but what made it even more pleasing was it was an even better performance.

“I’m not one to make a song and dance but I firmly believe we have a squad capable of beating anybody in this league and we proved that.

“There is a long way to go and no one will be getting carried away, we have to build on Saturday’s result now and carry it into the rest of the season.” The calibre of players at Downs’ disposal must be a pleasing aspect for the Arthurlie boss, with three first-team members not even stripped for Saturday’s action.

Lie’s ranks have been furthered boosted by the return of Mark Blakey this week, and the gaffer admits he is delighted with the range of players he has to choose from.

Downs added: “In my eyes there is no question we have a better squad than last season.

“It is a great problem to have to be honest, there is competition for places and everyone is capable of coming in to replace each other.

“It will be hard to drop the boys that played last week but there will come times where we need to change things up a little.”
