January Barrhead-born Jon McShane moved to Hamilton Accies from St Mirren after making just one start at the Buddies during the season. The striker who also played for Dumbarton won player of the month for February at the SFL side.

Neilston curlers Andrew and Rhona Robinson, alongside Alan and Rosemary Griffiths won the Province weekend competition at Stranraer. The club's under-17 side also enjoyed the taste of success, winning the slam at the Forfar ice rink.

Neilston ice hockey star Ruth Wallace was selected to represent Great Britain in the under-18 Women's World Championship in Norway. The 17-year-old had spent the past year training all over the contry in her bid to make the squad.

February Barrhead boxer Steven Rae came through two tough bouts to lift the ABS Scottish Intermediate Championship. Rae, pictured above, showed his class in the final after going toe-to-toe with Holyrood Boxing Club's Allan Anderson.

Arthurlie boss Sandy MacLean branded his side's display "shambolic" after a 4-1 drubbing at the hands of Clydebank. Ahead of their Scottish Cup tie against Bo'ness the manager urged fans to turn up for a fixture he described as season defining.

The ladies from Paisley Indoor Bowling club defied all odds to clinch promotion. A narrow 87-77 victory over Lanarkshire secured the team's place in the Premier League.

Former Whitecraigs prop Ed Kalman dedicated his first Scotland cap to the club where it all began. The star came through the ranks at the West Lodge club before moving to Durham for university.

March Arthurlie gave boss Sandy MacLean the axe, with the club ninth in the league. A 4-3 defeat to Petershill was the final straw for the Dunterlie side who moved quickly to re-appoint Mark Cameron, just 16 months after he had resigned from the job.

St Mirren Junior men lifted the league trophy after beating Tayside musketeers by a convincing 90-39 scoreline. The victory ensured the Paisley side, pictured right, maintained their unbeaten record to seal the title.

After winning his first Scotland cap, former Whitecraigs prop Jon Welsh dedicated the achievment to his former team. He said: "Whitecraigs had a massive impact on me and without doubt my very first coaches helped me to get to where I am now." Newly appointed Arthurlie manager Mark Cameron issued a rallying cry to his troops in a bid to turn their season around. "It's about getting these guys to have confidence in their ability and to play with confidence", he said.

April Four local golfers were selected for the coaching squads of the Renfrewshire Golf Union. Roddy McAuley, Alan Donnelly, Josh Beatt and Alister McNaughton, who play at Caldwell and Fereneze Golf Club, were selected to be a part of the coaching teams.

Neilston's relegation fears mounted following yet another defeat at Brig O'Lea. The club, who had only won once at their home ground so far, fell to Vale of Leven 1-0 to further put doubt on the team's survival chances.

A dynamic husband and wife duo made history by becoming the first married couple to be gents President and ladies President at Arthurlie Bowling Club in the same season. Brian and June Estlick, pictured right, aimed to spearhead changes in their first year in charge.

Neilston were given a boost by signing veteran mdifielder Martin McGarvey. The midfield maestro played a part in the club's 1998 Scottish Junior cup winning squad and also helped Beith claim their first Premier League title in 2010.

May The green at Shanks Bowling Club was officially opened after their annual ceremony. The green was opened by Mrs Elaine Thomson, wife of the President Alex Thomson. Hugh Henry MSP and his colleague Henry Hay were also there for the occasion.

Neilston secured their survival in the Central District First Division and manager Robert Fox was quick to set his sights on promotion ahead of the new season. "There's a nucleus of a decent squad at the club because we have matched any team in the league this year," he said.

A golfer from East Renfrewshire was selected to take part in the Area team championship. Renfrewshire Golf Union's Team manager, Ronnie Clark, announced his squad to compete at the prestigious event held at Blairgowrie Golf Club.

Real Madrid youth wonderkid Jack Harper spoke of his desire to one day play for Scotland. Despite being born and raised on the Costa del Sol, the teenage protege has his roots in Neilston, "It would be absolutely amazing to play for Scotland", the youngster stated.

June Arthurlie bowling club rolled out a new initiative which allows school pupils to learn how to bowl. Children from Springhill Primary School received first-class tuition from members of the club, and world number nine player Jonathan Ross, pictured above, as they search for a new champion.

Talks were held between club officials and East Renfrewshire Council bosses regarding plans which could force Neilston Juniors out of the Brig O'Lea stadium after 67 years. It was believed that the site was earmarked for a possible housing development.

Barrhead youngster Jon Faulds took his first steps towards representing Scotland after he was selected for the under-15 national basketball squad. The Barrhead High School pupil made the progression from the under-14 development side to the national team.

Arthurlie were given a boost going into the close season having successfully re-signed eight of the side's key players. Paul Stewart, Steven Crawford, Mark Blakey, Stephen McKeown, David Merriman, Ryan Deas, Alan Muir and Robert Walker all agreed to stay.

July Barrhead rower Claire McKeown was selected for the Great Britain under-23 squad that competed at the World Championships in Lithuania. And the news came just weeks after the former St Luke's High pupil became the first Scottish woman to win elite gold at the Henley Regatta.

Arthurlie Bowling Club regained the Arthurlie Plate after their mens and womens' teams overcame stiff opposition from various clubs from the Barrhead, Paisley and Mearns districts.

Barrhead youngster Mark O'Hara kept his SPL dreams alive after penning a three year deal with Kilmarnock. The St Luke's graduate stepped-up to train alongside the Killie side's first team stars.

August Barrie McKay revealed it was his time at the Barrhead Boys Club which helped the Rangers starlet propel into the Ibrox first-team. In his first professional interview, conducted by Barrhead Sports Reporter Sahil Jaidka, McKay opened his heart on his career and spoke of his joy to play with the Glasgow-giants.

Former Whitecraigs star Ally Little swapped the rugby pitch for the North Greenwich Arena as he helped the Team GB men's gymnasts clinch bronze at the London 2012 Olympic games. He worked as a physio alongside the team of five to keep the stars in top shape.

Arthurlie manager Mark Cameron made a treble swoop on the transfer market, with a promise of more to come. Clydebank striker Steven Dymock, Petershill midfielder Ryan McGregor and goalkeeper Kevin Maklins from Blantyre Victoria, all put pen to paper at Dunterlie Park.

Five local hot-shots earned a move from Barrhead YFC to Morton after impressing at the Western Cup final. Scouts from the Cappielow Park side spotted the stars, and weeks later, Alastair Hughes, Tony Etherson, Luke Irvine, Cameron O'Neil and Sean McCrea signed for the team in blue and white hoops.

September Real Madrid youth starlet Jack Harper made his Scotland debut for the under-17 side against Belgium. The Malaga-born attacker, whose parents are from Neilston, bagged 25 goals for the Real Madrid youth team in the 2011-2012 season.

Braehead Clan got their pre-season off to a flyer after beating Tilburg Trappers 4-1. Goals from player/coach Jordan Krestanovich (2), Ash Goldie and Adam Walker sealed the victory in the Clan's first game back on the ice ahead of the new campaign.

Former Killie star Daniel McKay revealed it was an easy decision to join his local side after he was not offered a new deal at Rugby Park. The brother of Rangers midfielder Barrie, McKay signed for Arthurlie after spells with Ayr United, Arbroath and Brechin City.

The annual legends charity match took place, with ex-Pollok and ex-Arthurlie players serving up a seven-goal thriller to entertain the fans. The Lie won this year after a 4-3 victory, making it 2-2 overall in games between the side since the fixture began in 2008.

October Neilston manager Robert Fox quits the club, ending his stint at the Brig O'Lea after spending over a year in charge. With the club sitting 10th place in the league, Fox said, "I had to leave the club so they could progress." Former St Luke's High pupil Kirstin McGuire received a call-up for the Scotland under-19's football team, as they headed into their European qualifiers. The Hamilton Accies youngster headed for Turkey with the squad to play games against the home nation, Belarus and Norway.

A goal in each half was enough to see Pollok knock Neilston out of the West of Scotland Cup in a bad tempered game which saw both sides reduced to 10-men. 'Lok opened the scoring and added a second but the game was soured with a flair-up between the teams after a bad challenge on Neilston's Digney by substitute Miller.

In golf, the October medal drew in 100 entrants and the first class competition was won by W. McMaster, second was R. Connolly and third R. Devlin.

November Mark O'Hara made his SPL debut against Celtic at Parkhead and was awarded the man-of-the-match award after Killie's 2-0 victory over the Hoops. The former St Lukes pupil also earned a call-up to the Scotland under-18 squad to train with the national side.

Barrhead ABC star Max Nutini won the Scottish title at the 57kg category in his second contest after beating three top fighters. The former St Luke's pupil has been tipped for success by his coach Ross Watson.

Former Arthurlie boss Frank Lynch returned to former side Beith as manager after leaving Clydebank following a 15-month spell as coach.

Ten Saints ladies players were called-up to the Scotland national squads after recent trials. The selected group will represent the country at under-15, under-16 and under-18 level.

December Liam Thompson returned to Barrhead and retained his PBW championship after overcoming James Scott via underhand tactics. The Barrhead PBW thrilled fans with a bumper show which also saw Blaze and Rampage win the tag-team title belt.

Former Neilston player Paul Harkins was in action at Ibrox as he lined-up for Elgin City to take on Rangers. The midfielder insisted it was his time at the Brig O'Lea that helped him get to where he is in his career now.

Boxer Steven Rae defended his Western District title after overcoming tricky bouts against top fighters. The 26-year-old also began training with the national Commonwealth squad. He dedicated the win to late-grandfather. Coach Mark Breslin labled the youngster as a hot-prospect.

The inaugural Barrhead Sports Personality of the Year was launched with Jack Harper, Mark O'Hara and Barrie McKay making the shortlist for reader's votes.

Barrhead PBW star Kay Lee Rae flew-out to Japan as she prepared to take on some of Asia's best wrestlers in her first international event.
