The council’s decision to challenge the ruling made by the Court of Session suggests they are not willing to walk away without a fight.

It seems fair to say those who are opposed to the idea of building a new school at Cowan Park are likely to be just as steadfast and we can expect the story to rumble on for quite some time yet.

Also in this week’s Barrhead News we report on another council matter that’s causing consternation.

East Renfrewshire Council staff are among those protesting against plans to move the local authority’s leisure facilities to a charitable trust.

And that’s not all, because Unison are going to ballot their member about possible strike action after a one per cent pay rise was imposed across all Scottish local authorities.

One wonders if these sort of disputes will come to an end after September 18 when the country votes to decided Scotland’s future.

Which brings us neatly to our latest referendum special with Jim Murphy and Stewart Maxwell airing their views in typically robust fashion.

The Barrhead News likes nothing better than helping our readers to the occasional tempting offer and not long ago we joined forces with Tesco to give you the chance to obtain a box of eggs for free.

Our local politicians, particularly Mr Murphy, should rest assured this had nothing to do with the ongoing political turmoil that’s causing jitters across the country.

Remember, the News is always keen to hear about the many amazing activities and achievements that go on in your communities, organisations, schools and classrooms.

Please do keep us posted. You can contact us by email at editorial@barrheadnews.co.uk or call 0141 435 8885.

We also host surgeries at Cafe 158 in Barrhead’s Main Street on Thursdays between 2pm and 4pm for anyone who would like to have a chat about a story, forthcoming event or a particular issue you would like to bring to our attention. We hope you enjoy this week’s Barrhead News and thanks for taking an interest in your local paper.
