volunteers turned out in force for Uplawmoor’s annual clean-up, helping to shift litter and abandoned goods from the village.

The team donated their time on the sunniest day of the year so far to help collect garbage and other items which had been dumped throughout Uplawmoor.

Organised by Uplawmoor Community Council, together with the local tennis club, the event yielded around 15 bags of rubbish.

Also collected were 10 tyres which had been dumped in an act of fly-tipping on the A736.

The group of 15 litter-pickers travelled around Uplawmoor and as far as Shillford on Saturday to clear the streets.

They then headed back to the tennis club for some well-earned refreshments.

Rob Williams, chair of Uplawmoor Community Council, paid tribute to those involved.

He said: “It went pretty well. The sunshine really helped with the day and it was great of people to give up their time in the nicest weather so far this year.

“What Saturday does highlight is that fly-tipping is still an issue in and around Uplawmoor and that more needs to be done.”
