STAFF at one of East Renfrewshire’s best-known businesses are raising their glasses after being shortlisted for a prestigious award.

The Uplawmoor Hotel is among the four finalists in the Country Pub of the Year category of the Scottish Bar and Pub Awards, with the winner to be announced in August.

It is a major boost for husband-and-wife team Stuart and Emma Peacock, who have been familiar faces in Uplawmoor for the past 25 years.

Stuart told the Barrhead News: “It’s a very proud moment.

“I would like to thank our loyal customers, from myself and my colleagues, for helping make sure we were shortlisted.”

As a finalist, the Uplawmoor Hotel has been told to expect visits from ‘secret shoppers’ ahead of the winner being unveiled.

Stuart said: “We’ve got our whole team on board and they are very excited about it.

“We’ve done a few tastings with staff behind the scenes to make sure everything is up to standard and we’ve reinforced the company to make sure we’re doing great.”

Stuart and his team are no strangers to awards, having won the Visit Scotland Thistle Award in 2008 and been named Gastro Pub of the Year by Dram magazine in 2010.

The hotel has also been included in the Good Beer Guide for more than 20 years running.

Stuart and his staff can also boast the Trip Advisor Certificate of Excellence.

They believe that using quality local suppliers, such as leading butchers Tulloch, helps to set them apart from their rivals.

The glittering ceremony for the Scottish Bar and Pub Awards will take place at the Hilton Hotel, in Glasgow, on Tuesday, August 15.

Providing the competition for the Uplawmoor Hotel in the Country Pub of the Year category are the Glen Hotel, in Newtonmore; the Leadburn Inn, in West Linton; and the Old Mill Inn, in Pitlochry.
