THE weather was kind for Uplawmoor residents when they held their 2002 Jubilee Gala Day.

A moving start was provided by Barrhead Burgh Band members, who marched from the old village school.

John Kinloch declared the gala open and then had the almost impossible task of judging the children’s fancy dress, the theme being ‘Royalty’.

There were 21 entrants and the winners of the five-and-under category were Ellie Renfrew, as ‘The King’, and Emir Hamitouche, as ‘King Neptune’.

In the six to eight-year-old section, Lucy Morrant was the ‘Queen of Hearts’ and Murray Morrant arrived as ‘I, The Crusader’.

Eve Gomez was crowned the ‘Wicked Queen’ and Rosie Morrant named the ‘Queen of Tarts’ in the nine to 11 years bracket.

The various activities at the gala day included a beat-the-goalie contest.

All children who participated in or attended the gala received Golden Jubilee medals as a permanent reminder of the special year.
