Jock the 5th of Woodneuk was named the best bull in Scotland at the 2009 Royal Highland Show and has swept the board at a local level.

Now he has attracted royal attention and is already on his way to HRH The Queen’s Scottish home at Balmoral.

Tom Tomson (pictured above) who runs Woodneuk Farm with his father William, said: “Jock 5th of Woodneuk has been the senior stock bull at the Woodneuk Fold for the last 8 years but has now been sold to join the Queen’s fold at Balmoral. Jock was born on the Fereneze Braes 10 years ago and won the Male Championship at the Royal Highland Show in 2009 along with championships at many other local shows.” Woodneuk Farm has made an international name for itself, exporting their cattle across Europe.

One batch exported last year were taken to live in the French Alps, where they were to spend their days grazing on the hills of spectacular mountain scenery.

This comes as a result of the handsome Highland Breed being able to stand harsh climates and boasting an ability to stomach almost any kind of grass and brush.

And Jock was considered the finest of the bunch before being bought by estate cattle managers at Balmoral in Aberdeenshire.

Tom continued: “Some of his off springs have been exported to a number of European countries but many remain at Woodneuk and can be seen grazing the Fereneze Braes and the Glennifer Braes.

“The fold of Pedigree Highland Cattle at Woodneuk was established 60 years ago by the late T.B.L. Thomson and continued by his son, and my father, William.” The Balmoral estate boats some of the finest livestock in the country, and is spread out over hundreds of acres of land.
