ORGANISED thieves are hitting the areas churches and businesses - costing companies thousands. Construction, landscaping and agriculture firms in Barrhead and Neilston have been hit by co-ordinated criminals who have been using flatbed trucks to steal heavy plant and machinery.

Police are concerned that the thieves are operating on a "to order" basis - by stealing specific pieces of equipment to sell on.

BUS operator McGills have promised to crack down on driver error after claims of overstaging were brought to their attention by the News. The transport firm carried out an urgent probe amid complaints that drivers had been exaggerating the length of passenger journeys involving Barrhead residents.

Bosses have passed on new instructions to driver after pensioners raised concerns that their journeys did not tally with their tickets - amid fears over the future of the concessionary travel scheme.

and A BRAVE Neilston youngster completed a tough charity run for cancer research - only two days after being given the all clear from the disease herself. Heroic Eva Jenks, 7, was diagnosed with skin cancer a year ago but refused to let the disease beat her.

The P3 Neilston Primary pupil celebrated her good health by raising �160 for running the Race for Life at Glasgow Green.
