HERE is what is making the headlines in today's Barrhead News.

MOTORISTS are facing months of disruption to transport plans - after it was revealed that power bosses are digging up ten miles of road to connect a windfarm to the national grid. Major works have already started on Barrhead's Aurs Road as Scottish Power warn that work to link the Neilston Community Windfarm to the power system gets under way.

Community bosses have expressed concerns that they were not told about the major works - but windfarm developers say it will be worth it in the long run.

BATTLING Barrhead householders have scuppered plans for a 14m mobile mast in the heart of the town. Mobile giants Vodafone and 02 wanted to build the tower on Arthurlie Avenue - but they received a bad reception from residents and the East Ren planning board who rejected the plan.

Locals were concerned about the visual impact of the tower and possible health problems - but the mobile developers said they were considering appealing the decision.

AND a heroic Neilston family have cycled the length of Britain - raising 3,000 in memory of their beloved mum. Popular Lynne McKie worked at the Traveller's Rest in Barrhead before she died of pancreatic cancer in 2002, aged only 43.

Devoted son Ross organised the trip and took dad Danny and sisters Vhairi and Kirsty along for the ride - making it from John O'Groats to Lands End in just six days.
