HERE is what is making the headlines in this week's News.

BARRHEAD is becoming a "dumping ground" after special rubbish uplifts were cut last year. Council chiefs have been slated by angry housing associations for scrapping the free collection of heavy goods - leaving trash piling up in the streets.

The council responded by saying the old system was not sustainable.

FOOTIE club chiefs have laid down the law over the future of their troubled social club. Officials from Arthurlie Social Club laid out strict new measures, including tougher membership rules, to get the club back on the straight and narrow after a difficult few months.

The club is half way through a one month booze ban after a spate of violent disorder around the Ralston Street premises.

A BRAVE Barrhead woman is putting tragedy behind her to raise money for a lifeboat charity. Jeanette Maltman is climbing Mt Kilimanjaro to raise vital funds for the RNLI after her husband and his cousin both died in a fishing accident.

She hopes to raise cash to help prevent others from suffering a similar tragedy and has enlisted family members to help her get in shape for her gruelling trek.
