Drivers were being asked to avoid a section of the M80 northbound on their morning commute after fatal, early-morning accident.

The collision happened on the northbound carriageway of the M80 about two miles south of Stirling at around 3.45am on Thursday.

The carriageway had been closed while the scene was examined by accident investigators.

The incident was cleared at around 10am.

Traffic Scotland said: “Traffic has eased off on the trunk routes.

“Local roads still suffering but should start to ease.”

An early-morning Twitter post from the Police Scotland control room first warned of traffic congestion.

It read: “Following a serious incident a short while ago on the M80, it will be closed northbound at Junction 8.

“Diversions are in place eastbound toward the M876.

“Please drive slowly and carefully and have patience.”

The team added: “We don’t close roads unless we absolutely have to.”

Traffic Scotland also asked people to “take care.”
