VANDALS have set fire to the renovated Carlibar Park, destroying two pieces of expensive equipment. Strathclyde Police confirmed the incident took place at 2.10am on Monday morning and are appealing for witnesses.

The fire has damaged around 10 square meters of children's safety matting and two pieces of play apparatus have been reduced to bare metal frames.

The cost of the damage is not known at this time but it is expected to run into the thousands as the park was recently given a complete overhaul with state of the art equipment to bring it up-to-date.

Police have appealed for information and witnesses and anyone with information is being urged to call 0141 532 2000 or call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111
