THE area's MP Jim Murphy has named the two local bands that will battle it out to perform on the House of Commons Terrace next month. Jim, who is a big live music fan, has spent the past week listening his way through dozens of entries and finally chosen two local bands to represent East Renfrewshire .

Crossfire, an under 18's band from Eastwood, and Black Light District, a five member band from Barrhead will be put forward for the chance to compete in a live battle of the bands on Wednesday May 30.

The winner of the Battle of the Bands will win the chance to play a live set on the Terrace of the House of Commons at the final reception and win prizes including festival performances, guitars and sound master classes.

Josh, guitarist from Black Light District, said: "It's pretty good to be picked by Jim. We've been together for years and gigging constantly. Getting the chance to play live inside the House of Commons would be awesome." Mr Murphy added: "It was a tough choice, there's a lot of talent here in East Renfrewshire.

"But Crossfire and Black Light District have got a real passion for music and you can hear it in their songs.

"Many acts struggle to get their big break so I'm really pleased these two young up and coming bands now have the chance to showcase the talent they have and play to industry experts. They deserve it."
