A TEAM from St Luke's High School picked a peoples prize for their part in the Money for Life Scottish finals. The team of senior pupils got the runner up prize after judges were impressed with their 'Pounds, Pence and Common Sense' project which saw them link up with community radio station Pulse 98.4FM to offer advice to youngsters looking to save money.

Their saving tips impressed the judges, but they still missed out on the top prize which was picked up by local rivals from Reid Kerr College, whose 'Money Talks' idea won them a 1,000 grant and a place in the national finals.

Louise Donegan, 17, from 'Pounds, Pence and Common Sense' says: "We're very excited to have made it through to our national final. One of the most important things we've learnt is to spend money on what you need rather than what you want and understand what your income will be before you go to university. We've had such a great response to our project that we plan to continue making our radio shows with the support of experts like Fergus Muirhead from BBC Radio Scotland." Sarah Porretta, Head of the Money for Life Programme at Lloyds Banking Group, said: "We are delighted to announce 'Money Talks' as the winners of the first ever Money for Life Challenge Scotland Final. The first year of the Money for Life Challenge has been a great success with a huge number of teams submitting a variety of exciting projects. I have been so impressed with the originality, creativity and enthusiasm I've seen from teams across the UK.

"The Challenge focuses on equipping a new generation with the skills they need to best manage their money, helping them to realise their everyday needs and lifetime goals while allowing them to develop the skills necessary to achieve them. We look forward to welcoming 'Money Talks' to our UK Grand Final in London on 23 May."
