Homes at Polnoon in Eaglesham have been honoured with the Saltire Society Housing Design Award 2015 for Innovation in Housing.

East Renfrewshire Council was a partner in the project, working closely with the builder, Mactaggart and Mickel.

Convener for infrastructure and sustainable growth, Councillor Tony Buchanan, said: “Congratulations to the planning and roads teams for their part in winning this major award.

“It’s a fantastic development that that lives up to its Innovation billing and our team have done a fantastic job with the street design. It really sets new standards in planning and roads.

“It’s a well-deserved accolade.” The impressive £3.8m Barrhead Foundry building has also put the council in the running for a top award.

It is a finalist in the Scottish Awards for Quality and Planning 2015 after creating the innovative centre.

The awards are one of the Scottish Government’s most prestigious events.

It is one of a number of awards the council will be hoping to win at the finals in September, two of which are also for Barrhead projects.

The Barrhead South Master Plan, which outlines proposals including a new train station, and Barrhead Water Works are shortlisted. There are two further nominations for work done to improve planning processes and guidelines.
