J&M Murdoch & Son Ltd welcomed customers, suppliers, employees, family and friends to join in the celebrations.

The company provides industrial services, skip hire, waste management, recycling, storage and tipper hire.

Margaret and Ian Murdoch senior started the business back in 1965 and some employees are still working alongside them to this day.

The couple built up their business from an original ‘general haulage’ background of moving whiskey around the UK.

They worked long hours and had some hard times through varying ups and downs of the economy.

Last year, they won an Industry Lifetime Achievement award at the annual Transport News Scottish Rewards presentation ceremony held in Glasgow.

The company is now under the guidance of their two sons and daughter, John, Drew and Helen, who learned the trade and skills required at external businesses.

The experiences gained by the younger generation allowed the family to introduce midi skips and operate their own landfill and transfer stations, diversifying the range of services on offer to their customers.

Margaret and Ian’s grandchildren are also involved in continuing the family line in a variety of positions throughout the business.

There is also a mixture of husband and wife’s, father and daughter/son’s, brothers, amongst employees, encompassing the family ethos of the business.

The Murdoch’s currently employ approx. 125 people and own, manage and operate their fleet and locations.

All generations of the Murdoch family were in attendance at their head office, Crofthead Industrial Estate, Lochlibo Road, Neilston to celebrate the milestone.

Vintage trucks were on display along with two new anniversary trucks – Scania Golden Griffin Limited edition and Volvo FH16.

The company’s fleet of vehicles were all gleaming and set the stage for a show of historical success through the years.

There was also had a special visit from Neilston Pipe Band who entertained guests with a few songs on the day.

Bus tours to the company’s recycling centre at Darnley, tipper and artic truck trips were put on along with amusements to keep the kids entertained – bouncy castle, ice cream van, clown, face painting and an all day BBQ which was free for everyone on the day.

The Murdoch’s are very much at the heart of the community but enjoy giving back.

Some recent recipients have been The Neilston Church Hall, Neilston Scout Hall aided via the Landfill Tax Grant Scheme.

Yearly events such as Neilston Show and Santa’s Sleigh Ride have long been supported by the family and will continue to do so.

The Murdoch family would like to say a special thank you to everyone who came along on the day to celebrate their 50 years in transport and help make the day a great success.
