New climbing frames, swings and other fun equipment have been provided.

There is also a ‘green gym’ with exercise equipment for adults to use.

Arthurlie Tenants’ and Residents’ Association secured National Lottery funding after three years of planning to revive the Carnock Park area between Levern Crescent and Carnock Crescent.

Children from Springhill and Auchenback Primary were involved in the design. And pupils and staff joined association members and convener for housing, Councillor Danny Devlin, at the official opening.

A ribbon was cut at the entrance to the new colourful climbing frame area by teacher Anne Boag, whose class were instrumental in deciding on the final designs.

Councillor Devlin said: “This is a marvellous addition to the community and to Barrhead.

“The tenants’ and residents’ association have worked hard over the past four years to provide this for the area so a massive well done to them.

“We were delighted to help them through the process and the application for National Lottery funding.

“Today we have something for everyone in the community to be proud of.” Association members gave out goodie bags to children to celebrate the opening, and a bouncy castle was hired for the occasion.

The association’s David McCormick said: “It’s great to see the park being used again. I’m sure the new equipment will be popular and it makes the few years of hard work worth it.” Work started on the park early this year and it was completed in good time for the summer holidays.
