Dr David Montgomery has been campaigning hard in the constituency as he attempts to drive home his message that David Cameron's party offers the best option on May 7.

Writing in this week's Barrhead News, he said: "I am a medical doctor who trained in Glasgow and the West of Scotland. I am married to Katherine, a surgeon at the RAH, and we have two young children.

"I became involved with politics only recently; I suppose everyone’s political awareness has increased since Scotland voted to stay in the United Kingdom.

"But rather than keep focussing on last year’s referendum, I wanted to get involved to really try and improve things for people in Scotland.

"I believe passionately that our NHS is one of the best in the world, and I will defend it tirelessly. But it can be improved, and that is why the Conservatives have pledged to increase spending every year of the next parliament, and by huge amounts, increasing to £8.6 billion pounds more a year by 2020.

"I think the best thing for the NHS is to have politicians who have worked in it and can help work to make it even better for patients and staff.

"I also believe that we need to do more to make work pay for hard working people. That is why I support the Conservative approach of cutting taxes for the poorest and hardest working in society, not raising them as Labour did when they were in charge.

"These are the reasons I am running for parliament; to help create jobs, lower taxes and protect our public services. On May 7th, the only way to prevent a Labour government propped up by the SNP is to vote Conservative."
