Mr Malyn, a former pupil at Eastwood High, is convinced an exit from the European Union would play a big part in restoring the country's fortunes.

And he also sees a need to reduce the number of people coming to live on our shores as a top priority.

Delivering his opening pitch to voters in this week's Barrhead news, he said: "I live in the East Renfrewshire constituency and work as policy and economic researcher for David Coburn MEP. Previously I worked in the IT industry and I have a degree in Business Economics from University of Paisley and I am an Eastwood High School former pupil.

"I got involved in politics and joined UKIP as it is the only party that is committed to getting the UK out of the antidemocratic and morbidly obese European Union and bringing down immigration to pre 1997 levels which are the prerequisites for restoring democratic accountability and economic prosperity in this country so that we can have high quality public services.

"The other parties have promised one thing and done another on these and other issues for far too long. That might be “good politics” as far as they are concerned but where exactly does it leave the rest of us?

"UKIP is the only party committed to taking power away from the EU dictators in Brussels and the apparatchiks in both Holyrood and Westminster and giving it back to the people.

"Many observers have praised the recent Scottish Independence Referendum for restoring the democratic engagement of the public.

"Unlike the other parties, UKIP wants to continue this engagement by letting the people decide important issues via referendums on both a local and national basis. If you want real change vote UKIP on May 7."
