Kirsten lives in Clarkston with her husband and two children and is said to be well known for her community work in the area.

She said: “I am absolutely delighted to have been selected by the local SNP members to fight the East Renfrewshire seat.

“I’m a relatively new member of the SNP, so I’m not a traditional politician, and I think it’s really important to have a candidate whose key focus is on the people who live in our local area.

“It’s vital that we have an MP who really understands the issues and concerns of local people, and whose main priority is tackling them. We need a strong advocate for our local communities.

“This is a real opportunity for change, and it’s clear that electing an SNP MP is the way to secure the best outcomes for Scotland and for East Renfrewshire” Ms Sturgeon said: “The SNP have got a fantastic candidate here who I know will take a very strong, positive message to the people of this constituency and while we take absolutely nothing for granted all of the polls right now show that there is absolutely everything to play for for the SNP. We all know that Scotland wins in terms of having a stronger voice, a louder voice at Westminster when the SNP wins.”
