A public consultation is to be held into plans for the new Barrhead High School today Members of the public are being invited to go along to view and give feedback on the plans for the proposed school.

There will be the chance to ask questions of the team which has drawn up the plans for the replacement building.

The public consultation will take place in the Ralston Room of Barrhead High School.

It will be open for five hours – from 3pm to 8pm – to give as many people as possible the chance to come in and find out more.

Convener for education and equalities, Councillor Elaine Green, said: “I would encourage local residents to come along, find out what’s planned, and give us your comments.

“It’s important that we hear the views of as many people as possible.

“The plans for the new Barrhead High look absolutely stunning – it will be a wonderful school for the pupils, staff, parents and community.

“I look forward to hearing your views.” Work is scheduled to start in summer and be completed by December 2016.

The new school is being built in Cowan Park, close to the site of the existing building. It will remain open throughout construction with no disruption to the pupils’ education.

The £27 million cost is being jointly met by East Renfrewshire Council and the Scottish Futures Trust.
