The two East Renfrewshire villages are joined by Renfrewshire communities Bishopton, Bridge of Weir, Brookfield, Howwood, Kilbarchan, Langbank, Linwood and Lochwinnoch, who are all set to benefit from the £2million funding windfall.

The cash - which is being invested in the area thanks to the LEADER programme - will also be shared among villages in the neighbouring counties of Inverclyde and East Renfrewshire.

Inverclyde’s Kilmacolm, Gourock, Inverkip and Quarriers Village, and East Renfrewshire’s Uplawmoor, Neilston and Eaglesham, are also included in the programme.

The villages which are due to benefit from the initiative are described by Renfrewshire Council as containing “key areas of natural interest such as Dams to Darnley Country Park, Castle Semple Loch, the Greenock cut and Lunderston Bay.” The money will be used to enhance existing visitor and tourist attractions, make environmental improvements to, and further develop the areas, and provide support to social enterprises.

The Greater Renfrewshire and Inverclyde Local Action Group will oversee the delivery of the regeneration.
