Robyn McKie, 12, will be taking on the female lead role of Clara in this year’s Scottish Ballet Christmas production of classic The Nutcracker. After taking part in many successful private auditions, held by Scottish Ballet in September this year, the former Cross Arthurlie pupil has been busy in rehearsals at Tramway Home for the production due to start this weekend.

Talented Robyn, who is currently in her second year training at The Dance School of Scotland, said she has had “a wonderful time” rehearsing with the other children and company dancers, including idols Sophie Martin, Christopher Harrison and Eve Mutso.

She added: “I literally can’t wait for the show to start. I’m having the most wonderful time and have butterflies with excitement every day.” Scottish Ballet said they are also extremely excited this year to be bringing back the magical version by the company’s founder Peter Darrell which first premiered over 40 years ago.

With brand new sets and costumes in addition to this magical version involving children, the show is predicted to be a huge success.

Robyn has already commenced the final production week preparations inside the iconic Festival Theatre in Edinburgh, where the curtain will rise with the youngster performing on Saturday, December 13 at 2pm.

Her proud mum, local dance teacher Jayne Arthur, said: “The experience and journey so far has been thrilling to say the least.

“Seeing Robyn in wardrobe at her first costume fitting by Olivier award winner and theatrical costume and set designer Lez Brotherston was amazing.

“It is a big commitment with all the travelling but watching Robyn perform will be worth every moment. It is an honour for Robyn at this tender age to perform this iconic role which is every little girl’s dream.

“To be part of our national ballet company at such a young age is a tremendous achievement and honour.

“Memories are already being made that will last with Robyn a lifetime. Robyn would like to thank her family, friends, Knightswood dance school and Jayne Arthur Theatre School from Barrhead for all their support and looks forward to seeing all at her performances in Edinburgh and Glasgow.”
