They have received a commendation at the Scottish Awards for Planning in Scotland. Their success was announced at a ceremony in Edinburgh and the award was presented by Derek Mackay, minister for local government and planning.

The commendation, in the development plans category, was for the work they have done on the proposed Local Development Plan for the Maidenhill area.

That saw the council bring a range of different groups together to take forward plans for the site. It is proposed that it will have housing and community, educational, leisure and community facilities, all created around a green network.

Cllr Tony Buchanan, convener for infrastructure and sustainable growth, said: “This is wonderful news for East Renfrewshire Council and this award recognises the professionalism of our planning staff and the hard work that has gone in to developing this framework.

“This is the first time the planning service has submitted an entry to these awards and I’m very proud we were commended. Well done to everyone involved in this success.”
