Despite the council meeting all of its road maintenance targets, 43.5 per cent of the road network is falling short.

East Renfreshire Council’s annual performance report also reveals that over 90 per cent of council homes now meet quality standards and more than 30 homes are added to the affordable housing supply in the area.

It states: “We are working to promote growth for the area through our Place to Grow campaign.

“Our vision aims to build on our strengths delivering high quality housing, education and green spaces.

“Investment in improving roads and enhancing infrastructure is an important priority, particularly the planned maintenance to ensure council housing meets the Scottish Housing Quality Standard (SHQS).

“The Barrhead Foundry is also expected to be complete in early 2015.

“We aim to ensure there is a varied and high quality affordable housing market available in East Renfrewshire and are committed to increasing the level of affordable house building.

“We are on track to meet our target of 150 homes by 2017.” As well as attempting to grow the amount of affordable housing available to residents, the council says that 61 businesses have received targeted busienss support and 290 new companies were fromed in East Renfrewshire in the last year.

When it comes to looking after the environment, 31 schools in East Renfrewshire are delivering outstanding results with green flag status, and a score of 75 was maintained on the national street cleanliness index, which charts each local authority in Scotland. More than £3 million has also been spent on Rouken Glen Park.
