The blue and white McGills single decker bus caught fire at around 12.30 on Tuesday morning on Glasgow Road, close to the Hurlet junction.
Police stopped traffic as the Scottish Fire and Rescure Service tackled the blaze.
A passenger is believed to have alerted the driver after spotting smoke in the cabin, and the vehicle was quickly stopped and evacuated.
No one was hurt in the incident.
