Neilston Community Repair says it is at the end of its tether over mounting litter problems on the village’s Main Street.

Now the group’s chairman, Matt Marshall, has issued a letter to all the local businesses asking for their support as the volunteer group vows to tackle the problem hear on.

The letter, sent out earlier this week, asks for businesses to contribute what they can to the charity read: “Since we stopped the litter picking service on Main Street we have noticed a significant increase in the amount of litter in the area outside the shops, despite the council litter picking throughout the week.

“As a community orientated organisation we want to get back to grass roots community work and will therefore be starting the litter picking service again.” Neilston Community Repair have been operating in Neilston for almost three years and provide basic DIY and handyman support to people in need around the community, including people who aren’t able bodied, the elderly and people and families in special circumstances who can not afford to draft in professional help or companies.

However it is an entirely non-profit organisation that relies on the donations of others to continue its work in the community.

The letter continued: “We will be working in the area directly outside of your business and in addition, we will also be working in the car park behind the shops and the alleyway leading from Main Street to High Street.

“As before, we will not be receiving any financial incentive to do this and will be operating as volunteers and not on behalf of East Renfrewshire Council. “ Anyone who wished to contact the community repair group can do so through 07927457189 or the group’s website: http://volunteerncr.wix.com/ncr
