Young local skateboarders and mountain bikers have been involved in the design of the new addition to Cowan Park.

The first-class addition to the park won funding of £75,000 to cover the cost.

Mark Brand of East Renfrewshire Council said: “This new park is jam-packed with 14 separate features.

“It’s East Renfrewshire’s first all-concrete state-of-the-art skate park and it is already proving a huge hit.

“Skateboarders came together with BMX riders on a design to meet everyone’s aspirations and the result is brilliant.” The funding of £75,000 towards the £90,000 cost came from Wren, a not-for-profits business that awards grants to a range of projects.

Managing director of Wren Peter Cox said: “Wren is committed to funding projects that make a real difference to local communities, children and families.

“The skate park will provide a fantastic place for local young people to get outdoors and be active.

“We’re delighted to have supported East Renfrewshire Council in making this happen.” It took seven weeks to complete.

Some of the boarders and bikers who were involved in the design and work with the council’s Young People’s Services were invited along to officially open the park in style.

For those in the know, attractions of the skate park include grind boxes, a pole jam and an excitingly quick 1.5m high hip.
