The new courts are part of the club’s £90,000 redevelopment programme which includes a new custom built pavilion, opened earlier in the season.

Local tennis star Nicola Burns performed Sunday’s opening ceremony, recalling how her love the game began on Uplawmoor’s blaes courts and paying tribute to the members who helped her along the way.

True to her roots Nicola went straight from her opening speech to the new courts with a coaching session for Uplawmoor’s young Tennis Club’s stars of tomorrow while members played mixed doubles matches on the other courts.

Earlier Club President Murray Pollok thanked funders, contractors and club members for helping making the dream of new all weather courts a reality.

He welcomed Sarah Robertson of SportScotland and East Renfrewshire councillors Elaine Green and Tony Buchan, who joined around 40 members and guests for the ceremony.

Murray thanked the Club’s funders, SportScotland, East Renfrewshire Council, Leader Funding, Whitelee Wind Farm, the LTA and Mactaggart and Mickel, and he paid tribute to David Rae of main contractors Fairways Sportsgrounds, the other contractors, office bearers and cub members past and present.

Club President Murray Pollok said: “The official opening of the new courts is a great opportunity for us to thank our funders, our contractors, our members and the local community for their support in helping us achieve our dream of giving Uplawmoor first class courts and a pavilion to match.

“Our main contractors Fairways Sportsgrounds deserve a special mention for making such an excellent job of resurfacing the courts, as you can see from the spectacular aerial photograph below. Our hope is that these first class facilities will encourage more youngsters to take up tennis and older generations to make playing tennis an enjoyable route to a healthier lifestyle.

“We are really pleased that Nicola has agreed to officially open the new courts, given her connection to the club and all she has achieved in the sport.

“We had a wonderful turnout and a great atmosphere at the opening of our new pavilion earlier this year, and we hope that the official launch of the new courts, to which everyone is invited, will be equally enjoyable”.
