The work is expected to allow the council to repair failing electrics on the ceiling of the building, and the centre is due to reopen on Monday 8 September.w The closure is necessary to allow failing lights within the building to be repaired.

Scaffolding will have to be put in place, meaning the pool will have to emptied.

The length of closure is to allow the pool to be drained, the lighting fixed, and the pool to be refilled with the water and heated and treated.

The draining and filling of the pool has to be done slowly to prevent damage.

Convener for community services and community safety, Councillor Mary Montague, said: “We apologise to our customers at Neilston Leisure Centre for this temporary closure.

“We did attempt to find a way around closing the building while the work is done but unfortunately there was no alternative.

“Please be assured we will get the repairs done as quickly as possible. We know the centre is well-used by local residents – thanks to everyone for their patience.” The centre was re-opened late last year following 8 months of closure due to essential maintainance works being carried out on the pool after major failings were identified in the pumping system.

Despite local fears that the centre would never re-open, East Renfrewshire Council coughed up more than £500,000 to complete the renovations and the pool as re-opened in August last year.
