The Tesco store, on Kelburn Street, provided families with a range of free activities designed to prepare them for going back to school, including handy tips and free advice on fun and healthy lunchbox ideas.

Using a variety of healthy ingredients, Tesco home economist Donna Knight demonstrated how to make tasty lunch time treats such as fruit kebabs and traffic light sandwiches which were then given out as samples.

Creative kids also had the opportunity to design their very own personalised pencil cases at an in-store craft workshop. Under the expert guidance of a craft team, children used felt tip pens and stickers to decorate their pencil cases exactly how they wanted – guaranteeing no one else in their school will have the same design.

Store manager Robert Killeen said: “We know how stressful it can be for parents to get everything ready to go back to school and to ensure their children’s lunches are well-balanced so it was fantastic to be able to do something to help.

“The event was a great success with children creating some really colourful pencil cases and I hope our customers left with some lunchtime inspirations.” Tesco are also pleased to announce that in July it collected an amazing 5.1 million meals to help feed people in need. Together with The Trussell Trust and FareShare, it has now collected 15.3 million meals since December 2012.
