Hundreds of residents turned out despite the threat of rain to support the annual community safety day at the Aurs Road centre on Thursday, August 7.

And youngsters didn’t find themselves short of activities, with everything from facepainting, real-life cartoon characters, a bouncy castle, 5-a-side football and a visit from the fire service and police to keep them entertained.

Organiser and member of Auchenback Active Irene Simpson said: “It was the best ever by far it was incredibly busy inside and out and thanks to Awards for All for making the whole thing possible.

“We are already looking forwards to nehxt year and if the weather stays with us like it did this time around then I think we can make it bigger again.” Several new additions to the open day helped draw in the crowd, including a petting zoo with all manner of reptiles, spiders, rabbits, ducks, chickens and even rats and mice for kids to learn about and even hold.

Councillor Mary Montague was on hand as East Renfrewshire Council’s convener for community safety while Provost Alastair Carmichael, who traditionally opens the festivities, sent his apologies as he was abroad.

Our photographer was on hand to document Auchenback Resource Centre’s biggest ever day at the heart of the community.
