The review is being led by the Local Government Boundary Commission for Scotland (LGBCS).

The LGBCS is proposing that the number of councillors in each council is based on a methodology that takes into account levels of deprivation as well as population distribution.

The LGBCS must conduct electoral reviews of each local authority in Scotland at intervals of eight to 12 years.

These result in recommendations to Scottish ministers for the number of councillors on each authority and the number and boundaries of wards for the election of those councillors.

Residents can share their views at www.consultation.lgbc-scotland.gov.uk.

The consultation is open until Thursday, August 21.
