Chelsea Cunningham, 20, is coming in to her final year at Anniesland College studying Dance Artistry.

And now the former Barrhead High School student has been given one of just 26 worldwide places to study at the prestigious Institute of Arts in the Spanish city of Barcelona for her honours degree in dance.

Proud mum Carol Cuthbert, a mum of six, said: “I would love her to be able to take up the offer as she is an outstanding dancer.

“We are going to ask local supermarkets to allow her and some of the children and parents from Christine Swanson School of Dance to do some bag packing to help fund this opportunity because it really is a once in a life time thing.

“Chelsea has attended this dance school since the age of three and she passed her teachers batd exam a few weeks after her 16th birthday.” Chelsea is now so good at her craft that, at the age of just 20, she is already teaching younger students and is now a volunteer teacher for Christine.

She can be found helping out at the dance school every Tuesday in Auchenback’s Scout Hall.

Carol added: “We are really hoping that any local businesses would be willing to help or sponsor Chelsea for the next three years so she could follow her dream to be a professional dancer.” Chelsea has appeared in Barrhead News in previous years having been picked to perform two years in a row at the annual pantomimes in the Pavilion Theatre in the heart of Glasgow.

In the past Chelsea has also attended Pace, Glasgow Acting Academy and Performance Studios and taken part in various shows, including the annual Pace and Performance pantomimes.

Carol continued: “I hope someone can help as we don’t know where to apply for any grants or anything to cover her fees and living expenses.

“The fees are £8,100 a year, which is around £5,500 cheaper than the fees at the London schools to do the same degree.” Anyone who can offer sponsorship or help to Chelsea is asked to contact Carol on carol_cuthbert@icloud.com
